Timone & C-Fer

Timone was my first cat. He was born in March 1996. He is a Seal Point Siamese of show cat heritage. Slim and slinky and very talkative he is the epitome of what a Siamese cat should be. A few years later I decided to give him a Christmas present to keep him company while I was out of town. I brought home C-Fer, a chocolate point siamese cat of questionable parentage. None too bright, fat and with a big round head he was probably not even worth the 50 bucks I spent on him. Short on looks he was very long on personality though.

Timone was mortified when I brought C-Fer home. Another cat had invaded his domain and he was not impressed. He ignored and treated me with distain for a least 2 weeks. C-Fer was such a suckup and he immediately began ingratiating himself with Timone. He was forgiven in a day or two and the 2 cats went on to become the best of friends and constant companions for years. I was eventually forgiven but the incident was never forgotten. Timone ceased to be a friendly people loving cat. You would get the feeling that he loved C-Fer but merely tolerated humans. He no longer allowed himself to be brushed for more than a few seconds, something he used to love endlessly and kept his distance from everyone. But both cats had good qualities and we just got used to things. Although they had vastly different personalities they shared some things, such as a total intolerance of other cats, and an apparently unbreakable rule that humans were never, ever to be scratched or bitten on bare skin under any circumstances. C-Fer seemed to bend the rules a bit. Feet in socks could be nibbled a bit and feet under bedclothes could fall prey to a Rottweiller-like bit through the blankets.

In the summer of 2002 C-Fer disappeared one day, we never found out what happened. I actually hope someone stole him rather than think he may have suffered in an accident.

I thought Timone would be distraught, the cats were inseparable for years but oddly enough he seemed OK. His personality turned around 180 degrees. He became the most affectionate cat of all, more so even than C-Fer. He loves to be brushed again, has regained some playfulness even, always wants to be up in your arms or lying on your legs while you watch TV and sleeps in bed every night. First when C-Fer disappeared I was certain that I would get another cat to keep Timone company but now I am not so sure. He seems much happier now or at least he is a much friendlier cat. As a fiercely territorial cat, Timone taught C-Fer how to fight and C-Fer took over the job of keeping all other felines away from the house. As Timone grew older and more mellow , C-Fer's hugh size and love of scraping must have become a pain in the ass for him. He would be sleeping or relaxing and all of a sudden C-Fer would jump up and grab him by the throat looking for a sparring partner. Timone most likely just wanted to be left alone. C-Fer seemed to love the action just for the sport or exercise and if he couldn't have a real fight with a strange cat he would settle for playful round with Timone. And strange cats were becoming increasingly rare, C-Fer having driven off every one for blocks around. Although neutered he never gave up his love of fighting. With his great size and strength and unbelievable jaw-pressure combined with a skill honed by years of sparring with Timone he feared no other cat and was probably taking over his masters place as Top Cat. Maybe Timone was glad to see him go, who knows! I think if I brought another cat into the house now there would be no forgiveness this time around.
