In February 2003 a group of girls and their teachers came to Marble Mountain from Gravesend in England. At considerable expense and with not much of an idea what to expect, they took a chance and flew from Heathrow to St.Johns, on to Halifax and finally on to Deer Lake, Newfoundland. After settling in at the Glynmill Inn, a Tudor style hotel in downtown Corner Brook, they started a week of skiing and lessons at one of the best-kept skiing secrets in the world. In no time at all under the guidance of Marble's CSIA (Canadian Ski Instructors Alliance) trained ski school staff even the beginners of the group where skiing on Green, Blue and even Black runs. The CSIA's student-centered approach and Fast Track to parallel system along with the dedication of the instructors combined with the attentiveness of the students and their genuine desire to learn allowed all of the girls to exceed their expectations. All girls got off the beginner slope and the advanced group experienced double black diamond runs and moguls as well as snow blades. Bowling, quiz nights, snow-tubing and night skiing rounded out their trip. The primary instructors Elaine Huxter, Jean French, Lloyd Greenham and Perry Humphries along with others who helped out along the way thouroughly enjoyed the experience as well and found all students to be interested, interesting and well behaved. They exceeded our expectations as well! This was the sixth group of British students brought over by England-born and Newfoundland based tour operators, Maria and Karen of Vision The Atlantic. Marble Mountain and the English schools owe them much for their vision and belief in Newfoundland as a holiday destination for UK tourists.
